Conure Digital Painting

I have recently adopted a Maroon Bellied Conure named Kea so naturally i had to draw him.
I havent really done this sort of digital painting before , and dont like the idea of copying other peoples photos in a drawing (even if they say you can) so i took a photo of my little boy and did this digital paitning / study of him.
i had the photo lined up next to my canvas the whole time as in the second picture, and did not use the colour picker as i am trying to train my eye to pick out the right colours itself.
With what i learned in this exercise , i hope to draw him again soon, from my imagination, and use photo ref for colour / details/ anatomy only rather than 1 for 1 copying the photo.
